From Local Impacts to Global Lessons: AIHM’s 2024 CSR Highlights

Written by AIHM | Jan 30, 2025 4:41:54 AM

AIHM’s students come from cities throughout Thailand and the world to reshape the future of the hospitality business. They pursue their own individual dreams. They work toward their goals. And, importantly, they learn the foundational skills for creating a sustainable impact on businesses and communities.

How can you unite your values with responsible growth? How can you develop new innovations that will make a positive impression? How can we guide our businesses with compassion and foresight for our impacts on the future? These are the kinds of questions AIHM’s changemakers explore as they proceed through their courses and curriculum.

The leaders of the next generation embrace and champion sustainable development as a key pillar of growth. They deeply understand the impacts businesses can have on their communities and environments. At AIHM, CSR is central to our mission—in terms of our own operations and also in terms of the lessons we strive to imbue in our students. In 2024 our students, faculty and staff engaged in several major CSR initiatives. How did we make a difference together? Let’s take a quick look at the year in review.

A Little English Goes a Long Way: Bringing Smiles to Wat Bang Nam Chon School

Led by Philip Reid—Lecturer in AIHM’s English for Business and Academic Studies programme—and supported by AIHM students, our volunteers dedicated themselves to strengthening community ties while providing foundational English skills to children aged 6-11.

Volunteers worked with 25-30 students per session in 12 sessions over 18 weeks. Visiting the Bang Nam Chon Temple School near AIHM’s campus, volunteers dedicated their time to helping our neighborhood’s schoolchildren develop their English language abilities through games, songs, storytelling, arts and crafts.

Saving Lives Step by Step: Giving Better Futures to Thailand’s Stray Cats

On 14 December 2024, AIHM brought compassion to the streets of Bangkok with the 6 Keys Marathon, a 42-kilometer journey connecting six Minor Hotels properties. Led by Gavin Tiffin, Practical Arts Programme Leader, and supported by students, staff and hotel teams, the marathon aimed to raise awareness and funds for PAWS Bangkok and Rawai Animal Lovers.

Symbolic keys collected at each stage represented opening the doors to a brighter future for Thailand’s stray cats through rescue, care, shelter, love, hope and forever homes.

This initiative not only raised awareness about responsible pet ownership but also united the AIHM community in making a meaningful difference. Discover more about how AIHM turned this mission into a reality one step at a time.

Helpings Hands: Supporting the Yuvabadhana Foundation

AIHM students showcased creativity and compassion by raising funds for the Yuvabadhana Foundation. Collaborating with Riverside Plaza to support the important work of the Yuvabadhana Foundation, the AIHM student team sold homemade baked goods and second-hand items, donating proceeds to support the Foundation in offering scholarships and educational resources for underserved communities.

The initiative not only strengthened local education systems but also raised awareness about the importance of community support. This collaborative effort highlighted AIHM’s commitment to fostering responsibility, leadership and positive change among its students.

Bright Days, Brighter Futures: Learning and Leading at Sunny Side Up English Camp

In September 2024, the Sunny Side Up English Curiosity Camp brought over 400 public school children and 80 volunteers together at HeadStart International School in Phuket. Supported by AIHM faculty expertise and resources, among other stakeholders, the Camp delivered 144 interactive lessons, including fashion shows, egg parachute experiments and water-based activities.

Focusing on English and critical thinking, the initiative inspired local students to explore, question and grow. This collaborative effort reflected AIHM’s commitment to fostering confidence and curiosity in the next generation as well our Institute’s passion for developing deeper cross-cultural understanding.

Food for Thought and the Community: Nourishing Minds and Building Bonds

As AIHM students explore and learn the culinary skills necessary to run the professional kitchens of the hospitality industry, we also strive to highlight the role of hospitality in creating positive social change.

Combined with our curriculum’s culinary and management training, AIHM’s food donation initiative lets AIHM students put their skills to work by preparing and donating nutritious meals to local schools and communities. This initiative also focuses on the importance of reducing food waste while enhancing our rising leaders’ understanding of the fundamentals of F&B management.

In a total of six sessions over the year, AIHM students prepared and donated 600 healthy and flavourful meal boxes to Wat Yannawa School, Wat Bang Nam Chon School, Nanthiya Kindergarten and the Klong Praya Kasem Community.

Looking Ahead

AIHM looks forward to continuing to strengthen and develop its CSR programme in 2025. As always, we strive to complement the lessons we teach our students in the classrooms with real-world experiences where our learners can apply their knowledge, develop their own individual approaches and establish robust foundations for their future endeavours. Follow the continued CSR efforts driven by our students, faculty and other team members in the months to come.
