Celebrate with AIHM’s Ambassadors at Bangkok Riverside Fest 2023

Elephant boats surge through the water as rowing teams race for the trophy. Local stars take to the concert stage. And AIHM’s talented students put their newfound skills and knowledge into practice as one of Bangkok’s most exciting annual events returns to the riverside.

From their very first semester of hospitality education at AIHM, students are immersed in the practical arts—learning about innovation, entrepreneurship, and communication and putting them into practice; delving into culinary expertise from farm to table; discovering the ins and outs of guest service; and more. Our students have been working hard and learning from Minor Hotels’ skilled professionals and leaders, alongside mentorship from AIHM’s faculty and other hotel professionals and distinguished guest speakers. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the hospitality business’s various facets, and of course events management is a vital specialty. As Bangkok Riverside Fest returns on 3 – 5 February 2023 at Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort, AIHM’s students get to exhibit their knowledge, participating in a major event that will see an estimated 3,000 guests per day.

Prior to the event, AIHM students come together for a distinctive week-long seminar on event theory and concepts. They then gain a behind-the-scenes look into what it takes to host a successful event during the event set-up two days before the festival. As the Bangkok Riverside Fest opens on 3 February and over the following two days, AIHM’s students take on special roles at six stations throughout the event:

  • The Ticketing Booth – Where students turn their attention to front-of-house activities
  • The VIP Area – Where they apply their knowledge and insights into what it takes to make high-profile guests feel valued and well cared for
  • The Beer Garden – A fast-paced and energetic environment where students apply their training in F&B management and service
  • Guilty – A culinary hotspot for putting more F&B knowledge into practice
  • The Staging Area – Whether a wedding celebration, a concert, or a business conference, all eye focus on the stage; here AIHM’s students help ensure everything flows smoothly when celebrities and speakers take to the stage
  • Sustainability Stands – Where AIHM students serve as dedicated ‘Sustainability Ambassadors’

Like Minor Hotels, which hosts this event, AIHM is passionately committed to sustainability. In fact, Bangkok Riverside Fest’s objective is to raise money for elephant-related charity initiatives, preserving and caring for these gentle giants who are some of Thailand’s most cherished natural riches. During the three-day event, our student ambassadors will be making presentations on the latest innovative sustainable practices that are a vital part of the present and future of the hospitality industry.

AIHM’s Practical Arts Programme Leader, Ishaan Dargan, and Anantara Riverside Bangkok’s Resort Manager, Frederic Kolde, will support and supervise students at all areas of the event. Each station will also have an assigned supervisor from the resort to oversee operations and make sure AIHM’s students get the most out of their experience.

Bangkok Riverside Fest serves as an important stepping stone in our students’ journeys. In the lead-up to the event and during the festival itself, students benefit from a hands-on, multi-faceted collaboration with many of Minor Hotels’ own experienced associates. Student participation in the event exemplifies the style of AIHM’s BBA course as a whole. The school’s Bachelor of Business of Administration in Global Hospitality Management provides our budding entrepreneurs and executives with a dynamic instructional experience that unites academics and a unique applied, real-world learning approach.

Of course, we want our students to have fun as well as learn. In between their hands-on time at the various stations, they will be free to unwind by joining the concert audiences, taking part in the wealth of activities, exploring the Foodie Zone, or relaxing under the fireworks with their friends from AIHM.

Visitors to Bangkok Riverside Fest 2023 are invited to meet our student ambassadors at the Sustainability Stands to hear their presentations or ask them about their time at the school.
