Blindfolds, Brains and the Battle for the Tower: AIHM’s Epic Team Building Day

At AIHM, we believe in learning by doing—and we mean it. All the industry expertise students learn inside the classroom fuels their future success, but that’s just one part of the equation. In addition to their academic studies, AIHM students gain and grow real-world skills through a focus on internships, practical arts courses and leadership opportunities. During their growth period with us, our students dive into active learning experiences that challenge them to grow as individuals and as teammates.

This term, our fourth-semester BBA students stepped out of the classroom and into the action with a high-energy day of challenges designed by the team building pros at Beunite. Teams joined minds in exciting games designed to test memory, strategy, communication and grit.

What started as a few name tags and nervous giggles quickly became a battle of brains, balance and bandanas. Here’s how it all went down…

What Teamwork Looks Like: The Day in Photos

“Who am I?” The icebreaker begins.
Our BBA students jumped right in, role-playing celebrities and guessing each other’s secret identities. The game proved to be a hilarious and surprisingly revealing way to kick off the day—and to prove that no one at AIHM is ever a stranger for long.

The calm before the mental storm.
Laughter gave way to laser focus as teams prepared for the Memory Game. Our young leaders rose to the occasion as they joined in a challenge about syncing minds under pressure.

Minds racing, voices rising.
This challenge demanded crystal-clear communication and concentration. One wrong move? Start again. Frustration built. So did determination.

Rings, ropes and relentless teamwork.
The Ring Game tested both mental and physical coordination. Cheers erupted. So did groans of near-misses. Every move counted—and every teammate mattered.

Let’s make it harder. Blindfolds on.
Competition was fierce. As a tiebreaker, the Ring Game escalated with blindfolds. Their sight removed, students had to place full trust in their teammates. Communication became survival. Leadership emerged in real time.

The Orange Team takes on the Tower of Hanoi.
In a relay-style challenge, students raced to build the Tower of Hanoi and solve this classic puzzle. The game was a scramble of speed and smarts where decision-making skills, strategy and quickness shared the spotlight.

The Green Team goes for the win.
With fierce precision and unity, the Green Team soared through the final round, claiming victory as overall champions! They weren’t the only winners though. Every team walked away stronger, sharper and more bonded.

The Blue Team strikes a pose.
Some may have lost the challenge—but no one lost their spirit. Every team showed creativity, joy and unstoppable energy.

Fist bumps and future leaders.
The true winner of the day? Unity. Students walked away with tighter connections, new insights into themselves, and a renewed sense of what it means to lead with heart and clarity.

One team, one family.
As the day ended, everyone—faculty included—joined in a celebration of what makes AIHM different. Yes, we AIHM Higher. And we rise together!

What the Games Taught Us

Team building isn’t just a break from the classroom. At AIHM, it’s an extension of the classroom—an opportunity to live our values through experience. Our students practiced:

  • Collaboration under pressure
  • Creative problem-solving with limited resources
  • Resilience in the face of setbacks
  • Leadership in unpredictable moments
  • Communication across diverse personalities and styles

Why these skills? They’re the hallmarks of hospitality leadership. Together, they serve as the foundation of our active learning approach. Mastering skills like these prepares our students to enter the workforce with the ability to lead teams, drive collaboration, overcome obstacles, pivot to tackle new challenges, and delegate responsibilities while taking into account each individual’s strengths.
