Who wouldn’t love an all-expense-paid trip to a tropical island with the chance to explore while capturing your memories? Avani Hotels & Resorts has partnered with AIHM to launch what is possibly the ‘Best Internship in the World.’ This special opportunity is available exclusively to our students!
A Special Invitation from Minor Hotels
To kick off the competition and introduce our hospitality students to the ins and outs of public relations careers, two PR leaders from Minor Hotels visited AIHM for a special session. During the session, students were able to learn from and speak with these guest experts: Elisa Grimaldi, Avani’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, and Nutthachai Bunluthangthum, Minor Hotels’ PR Content Creator & Data Analysis Manager.
Elisa and Nutthachai gave our students the inside scoop on how a hotel company develops and executes strategies to promote its brands. These leaders shared an overview of and insights about their various responsibilities:
By introducing our students to the world of PR, we encouraged them to dream beyond the opportunity offered by this competition and consider PR as a potential career.
About the ‘Best Internship in the World’
After diving into the PR industry and giving students an inside perspective on Minor Hotels’ own global PR team and its strategies, tools and activities, Elisa and Nutthachai unveiled the details of competition. Students were invited to show off their social media savvy in a ‘Day in My Life’ Instagram campaign. Our PR guest experts talked about how students could express their personality and creativity by creating Instagram posts and reels. Students learned how successful social media strategy is so much more than just ‘pretty pictures.’ The PR experts took students through storytelling and sequencing, social media photography skills, captioning, taking advantage of tags and hashtags, and more. Two winners of the ‘Day in My Life’ mini campaign would be selected as Avani’s next content creators, enjoying what is possibly the ‘Best Internship in the World.’ Winners of the internship will:
In addition, our PR guest experts gave students a behind-the-scenes look at Avani’s own public relations strategy and talked about the kinds of social media content that would excite Avani’s potential guests. As AIHM’s students compete for the prize, we also want them to learn what it’s like to be a successful PR professional in the hospitality field. As always, we want their hospitality education to marry academics and practical application of the skills they’re studying. This kind of exposure to the real-world running of a hotel company is exactly the kind of opportunity we provide and emphasise as an essential part of an AIHM education.
Why Is Social Media So Important for the Hotel Industry?
It’s no secret: social media is a powerful force in numerous industries today. However, social media plays an especially muscular role in the hospitality and travel fields. For Avani? Even more so. Students learned how Minor Hotels’ PR team specifically speaks to the mindsets and motivations of Avani’s travellers. They also learned how Avani leverages social media to develop content around particular strategic themes, to create cohesive storytelling across the brand, to amplify media appeal, to increase press coverage and to drive revenue.
Of course, our students use social media in their daily lives. Beyond this however, we wanted them to more deeply and precisely understand its vital role in the hospitality business. Social media is a tool for success. The ‘Best Internship in the World’ serves as a microcosm of how smart content strategies with great execution rise to the top!
