If you’re my age, you remember learning in school on a slate chalkboard and an abacus. A “computer” sounded like a strange, cute little creature. And the internet? Is that a tool for catching fish?

I’m joking. Mostly! But the tools available for learners today have evolved dramatically. Today’s young people have the opportunity to learn in so many new and different ways. As educators, we have the possibility and the responsibility to turbo-boost our students’ learning with a wide range of modern tactics and up-to-date technology.

Imagine losing 89% of your customers after a single bad experience. Guess what? You don’t have to merely imagine it. That's the reality. (Customer Experience Impact Report, Oracle) When businesses neglect customer service excellence, the impacts are dire​​. This statistic may sound dramatic at first glance, but think about it for a moment and it makes total sense. Consider your own experience. When you receive bad customer service once, how often do you never go back to that business again?

Dr. Yuth Thongcharoen initially joined the Asian Institute of Hospitality Management at the end of 2023 as an AIHM Expert in our Executive Education management skills training programme. With his successful academic career at higher education institutes in Thailand in addition to his background in management and entertainment as well as a doctoral degree in Language and Communication, he was a perfect fit teaching memorable workshops on topics likePresentation Skills and Start Your First Business.

Academic research studies and the anecdotal experience of professors and others who interact closely with today’s young adults confirm that when it comes to those who are now entering the workforce their aspirations, values and career goals stand in stark contrast to the generations that have come before.

Dashes of saffron, violet, fern green, steel blue and fiery red make their signatures on a moon-shaped canvas. A badminton shuttlecock flies through the air. An electric guitar electrifies the atmosphere. Yuzu citrus does a tango on your tastebuds. You refresh with a perfectly poached prawn wonton and cross your fingers for luck in anticipation of your top pick from the raffle prizes. These notes combined to create the experience at the Harmony Gala, a memory-making night composed and orchestrated by AIHM’s exceptional students!

At the Asian Institute of Hospitality Management (AIHM) in academic association with Les Roches, our academic team has the opportunity to work with brilliant young leaders from around the world. As we teach, train and mentor, we are inspired by the dreams and aspirations of AIHM students.

In some ways, students’ energetic and ambitious mindsets are familiar. Every young generation possesses a vision for their future. In other ways, it’s apparent the next generation entering the workforce is very different from those of us already well into our careers.

Imagine that you are holding the steering wheel of a race car, speeding down the track with the engine roaring.  As you accelerate at incredible speed, the wind soars around you and the air smells electric. One of your competitors is gaining on you. Then you rush ahead.

In January of 2023, Christian Terwiesch—Co-Director of the Mack Institute of Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School—published a fascinating white paper: “Would ChatGPT Get a Wharton MBA?” Terwiesch performed an experiment. He challenged ChatGPT 3 to take the final exam for a sample Wharton MBA course. The results? ChatGPT would have earned a grade of a B to B-.

In June 2023, we officially launched AIHM’s Executive Education programme with the mission of “Empowering Asia’s Business Professionals to Achieve Excellence”.
