When I was young, I dreamed of a career that would take me around the world. Today, I’m looking out from my office to the Bangkok skyline. My specific ambitions have evolved over time, but the strong sense of ambition has stayed constant. Over the years, I’ve helmed an exquisite beachfront resort by the Andaman Sea, taught students at some of the world’s most elite hospitality management institutes, and helped steer these institutes and their graduates to success. As the Chief Operating Officer of Minor Education, I’m proud to now lead the Asian Institute of Hospitality Management (AIHM) and its students in helping to define the future of the hospitality industry. None of these career moves happened by chance. I took action to make them happen.

Developing teams and individuals is an ongoing process that thrives on clear communication, structured goals, and a supportive environment. When I moved to the Maldives in 2010, it was the second time in my life that I went to live in a place where I knew almost no one.

If you’re scared of heights, would you rush to the top of a ladder? An experienced construction worker or someone who cleans the windows of skyscrapers for a living would be happy to just hop on the ladder and zoom their way up to the top. They’re used to it. Climbing up to a lofty height is something they’ve done many times before. We can use this as a comparison to public speaking.

Imagine that you are holding the steering wheel of a race car, speeding down the track with the engine roaring.  As you accelerate at incredible speed, the wind soars around you and the air smells electric. One of your competitors is gaining on you. Then you rush ahead.

In June 2023, we officially launched AIHM’s Executive Education programme with the mission of “Empowering Asia’s Business Professionals to Achieve Excellence”.

Thank you for entrusting with your time and your teams, it has been an amazing first year of learning together.
