Hospitality Internships at AIHM

AIHM Opens Doors

How do you start your career with a strong foundation to create the life of your dreams?

Accomplished professionals know two of the greatest keys to career success are connections and experience, the right internships can elevate an entry-level jobseeker from a good candidate to an excellent candidate when they are seeking fulltime employment with global organisations after graduation.

For most students, experience is developed over time during their academic studies in the classroom - with opportunities to apply what they have learned only after graduation.

Here at AIHM we do it differently.

Students are asked to take the experiences and take it one step further by immediately demonstrating what they have learned and applying it in the real world first within the practical elements of the programme. They can then bring these applied experiences with them as they embark on internships in Bangkok and beyond.

AIHM students can leverage their internships to kickstart their careers and set themselves on a path for early success. AIHM recognises these tremendnous benefits; that’s why we make internships a fundamental part of our student’s education.

During their studies, AIHM students benefit from two separate internships tailored to meet their short- and long-term goals. For those students who have a wide variety of interests and are not yet sure what they want to focus on when building their career, this formula allows them to test out different options.

A Wealth of Choices

Life doesn’t begin at graduation; it’s happening already.

Students at AIHM are challenged to dream big and work smart to achieve their goals, one step at a time. As lifelong learners, AIHM students recognise the importance of having a vision and testing it out before going all in. Internships are a fantastic way to take your ideas of what your future career will look like and try it out before fully committing to that path.

Students can choose to do an internship almost anywhere: from a five-star hotel to a start-up company. As long as the internship aligns with the student's goals and is agreed upon by AIHM, students have freedom of choice to explore their passions.

Double the Experience: Two Internships for Every Student

Our Bachelor of Business Administration in Global Hospitality Management is a 3.5-year programme (7 semesters). All students benefit from two semester-long internships while earning their degree. How DO internships at AIHM Prepare Students?

“Knowledge is experience. Everything else is just information.”

Albert Einstein

AIHM students prepare for their life and career after university by reflecting on the theory and information presented in the classroom and applying what they learn to either the hospitality industry or wider business sector during their internships. As Einstein said, real learning takes place through experience, when you put your information into practice.

Numerous research studies demonstrate the importance of practice-based learning: Min, Swanger & Gursoy 2016; Robinson, Ruhanen & Breakey 2016; Spowart 2011; Goh & Lee 2018; and Mendoza 2018 – to name just a few of our favourites. Researchers have found that in our rapidly changing world, applied learning methods are particularly effective for Gen Z. Younger generations have grown up in a very different world from their parents. In today’s hyper-connected, rapidly evolving, more collaborative world, young people are primed for learning and growing through real-world experience and non-traditional education delivery.

In addition to facilitating internships, AIHM guides students throughout the entirety of their internship journeys: before, during and after. We help students create a powerful curriculum vitae and cover letter. We also teach them how to develop their personal brand on LinkedIn as well as to construct a private professional portfolio using the platform PortfolioGen. Students graduate from AIHM with an impressive resource to showcase all that they have accomplished which will put them leaps and bounds ahead of their competitors in the job market. In addition, students can take advantage of the connections they’ve made during their internships as they embark on their career and in the years to come.
